18K Cannetille Ring

18K Cannetille Ring

SKU: 41
This is a true vintage score - an 18K yellow gold band with ornate delicate filigree detail. The style of rosette in the center of the band is known as a technique called Cannetille. A french word used to describe the thin gold woven into ornate flowers and wreathes. This trend is recorded in detail in the 1840's Europe however has credits dating back to Chinese and Korean craftsmanship in mid 1700's.
This band is 7mm in width, weighs 4.9 grams and is a size 7 on the ring mandrel. Personally, this ring fits my 6.5 finger snug and comfortable while my size 7 finger has trouble fitting over the knuckle. It is common for wide flat band styles like this to fit more tightly than a thin band.

This ring is from an estate of a woman born in France in 1936 prior to moving to the States after WWII. She remembers her mother wearing this ring. The condition of the band is good considering the lifetime of wear. The inside of the band is hand etched 18K as well as testing 18K yellow gold. One area has evidence of repair with diacoloration of solder and some areas of woven pattern are flattened by loving wear.
